The Paul® tube glaucoma implant, manufactured by Advanced Ophthalmic Innovations (AOI), is a new-generation device developed with a focus on design and clinical performance.

Its distinctive features include a micro-sized tube, whose small internal calibre creates high flow resistance to safeguard against early post-operative hypotony, while the reduced external surface minimises the space occupied in the anterior chamber and helps avoid erosion at corneal contact; an optimised geometry with a new endplate design, offering a wider surface area to support aqueous filtration and a drainage shape studied to keep the filtration area less covered by the recti muscles; and an advanced device composition, based on a proprietary medical-grade silicone with new properties designed to make the device more flexible, facilitating implantation and reducing micro-abrasions and excessive wound scarring.
